EU/EEA Spouse and Family Members Visa – Spain

Hassle-free visa processing for your travel needs.

Overview

The EU/EEA Family Member Visa is designed for spouses, children, parents, and dependent relatives of EU/EEA nationals who wish to accompany or join their family member in Spain. This visa facilitates short-term travel and does not grant permanent residency rights.

Family members of British nationals covered by the Withdrawal Agreement may also be eligible for this visa.

Processing Time

  • Applications submitted at the Spain Visa Application Centre will be forwarded to the Spanish Consulate General in London on the next working day.
  • The legal decision-making period is 15 calendar days from the date of submission.
  • In some cases, processing may be extended up to 45 calendar days if an interview or additional documentation is required.
  • Applications from nationals of certain countries may require consultation with Spanish central authorities, which may extend processing times.
  • The Spanish Consulate does not provide updates on application status or reasons for visa refusals via email.

Documents Required

All documents listed below are mandatory. Each applicant must submit their own set of documents.
Important: Most documents required for your visa application must be recent and dated within the last 30 days at the time of submission. Ensure all paperwork meets this requirement to avoid delays or rejection.

General Requirements

Visa Application Form

  • Fully completed, signed, and dated.

Photograph

  • One recent passport-sized colour photograph with a white background (refer to Photograph Requirements).

Passport

  • Original passport.
  • Valid for at least 3 months beyond the intended stay.
  • Must contain at least two blank pages.
  • Photocopy of the bio-data page of the passport.

UK Residency

  • Provide a UK eVisa printout from UKVI with a valid share code.

EU/EEA Family Relationship Proof

Proof of Relationship to EU/EEA Citizen

  • Photocopy of the passport or national ID of the EU/EEA citizen.
  • Depending on the relationship type, one of the following:
    • Spouses: Marriage certificate.
    • Registered Partners: Partnership registration certificate.
    • Non-registered Partners: Evidence of cohabitation for at least one year or proof of children in common.
    • Children (including stepchildren and adopted children): Birth certificate.
    • Children over 21 years old: Proof of financial dependency on the EU/EEA citizen.
    • Parents or grandparents: Civil status documents proving the relationship and proof of financial dependency.
    • Other family members: Civil status documents proving the relationship and medical or financial documents demonstrating exceptional dependency.

Travel and Financial Proof

Joint Proof of Travel Plans

  • Confirmed travel itinerary showing intent to accompany or join the EU/EEA citizen in Spain.

Proof of Finance (If Applicable) 

  • Applicants must demonstrate sufficient financial means of at least £100 per day per person, with a minimum of £905 for the entire trip.
  • Accepted Documents:
    • Recent (last 3 months) bank statements.

Additional Documents for Minors

Travelling with Both Parents

  • Copy of birth certificate or adoption certificate.
  • Copy of parents’ passports and visas, if applicable.

Travelling with One Parent or Guardian / Without Parents

  • Copy of birth certificate or adoption certificate.
  • Copy of passport and visa of the accompanying parent.
  • Notarised authorisation from the non-travelling parent(s).
  • Court document if custody is held by one parent or guardian only.

Note: Documents must be officially translated into Spanish if specifically requested by the Consulate.

Important Information

  • Stapling documents is not permitted.
  • All documents must be in English or Spanish. Translations into Spanish are required only if specifically requested.
  • Submission of a visa application does not guarantee approval. The Spanish Consulate reserves the right to request additional documentation or interviews.
  • All visa decisions, including duration and number of entries, are at the sole discretion of the Spanish Consulate General in London.
  • Visa fees for EU/EEA family members are waived, but the Visa Centre may charge a service fee.

Photo Specifications

Provide one recent colour photograph of yourself, dated within 30 days and not previously used in your passport.

Your photograph must meet the following specifications:

  • Size: Minimum 26 mm wide × 32 mm high, Maximum 35 mm wide × 45 mm high.
  • Quality: Clear, sharp, and in full colour.
  • Background: Plain white, ensuring clear contrast and visibility of facial features.
  • Appearance: Your face must be centred, clearly focused, and distinguishable against the background.
  • Material: Printed on standard photographic paper (no digital or home-printed photos).

Additional Guidelines

  • Maintain a neutral expression; keep your face fully visible and unobstructed.
  • Prescription glasses are allowed if worn daily. Non-prescription eyewear is not permitted without a medical certificate.
  • Head coverings are permitted for religious or medical reasons only, and supporting documentation may be required.
  • Uniforms or service attire should not be worn.

Important

  • Affix the photo securely but do not staple it to your application form.
  • Ensure your photo strictly complies with these criteria; otherwise, your application may be deemed incomplete.
