Documents Required
All documents listed below are mandatory. Each applicant must submit their own set of documents.
Important: Most documents required for your visa application must be recent and dated within the last 30 days at the time of submission. Ensure all paperwork meets this requirement to avoid delays or rejection.
General Requirements
Visa Application Forms
- National Visa Application Form – Fully completed, signed, and dated.
- EX-01 Form (Autorización Inicial de Residencia Temporal) – Fully completed, signed, and dated.
- 790-052 Fee Form – Completed and signed, for the initial residence authorization.
Photograph
- One passport-size colour photograph printed on photo paper with a white background.
- No digital retouching allowed.
Passport
- Valid for at least 1 year from the intended date of travel.
- Must contain two blank pages.
- Photocopy of the bio-data page of the passport.
- Passports issued more than 10 years ago will not be accepted.
- Applicants must leave their passports at the Consulate during processing.
UK Residency
- Provide a UK eVisa printout from UKVI with a valid share code.
Proof of Finance
Applicants must demonstrate sufficient financial means to support themselves and accompanying family members for one year, according to the IPREM (Indicador Público de Renta de Efectos Múltiples):
- Main applicant: 400% of the IPREM per month, which in 2024 is €2,400/month or its equivalent in foreign currency.
- Each additional family member: 100% of the IPREM per month, which in 2024 is €600/month or its equivalent.
Financial proof must include:
- Original and stamped bank statements showing regular and sufficient income.
- Documents proving ownership of real estate assets or investments that ensure financial independence.
- If financial means come from shares in a Spanish or foreign company based in Spain, applicants must provide a certificate proving they do not perform any work activity in the company and submit an affidavit to that effect.
Health Insurance
- Original and a copy of a private or public health insurance certificate.
- The insurance policy must:
- Be from an authorized company in Spain.
- Provide full and unlimited coverage (no excess or co-payments).
- Cover all risks insured under Spain’s public health system.
- The S1 Form (for retirees with a UK pension) is also accepted.
Additional Documentation
Criminal Record Certificate (For Applicants Aged 18+)
- Original and photocopy of a criminal record certificate from all countries where the applicant has resided in the past 5 years.
- UK applicants must provide an ACRO Certificate.
- Documents must be legalized or apostilled (except for EU-issued documents).
- If not in Spanish, an official translation must be provided.
Medical Certificate
- Issued within the last 3 months by a registered medical practitioner.
- Must confirm that the applicant does not suffer from any disease posing a serious public health risk under the International Health Regulations (2005).
- Must be translated into Spanish if issued in another language.
- The medical certificate must be legalized or apostilled if issued outside Spain or the UK.
Proof of Residence in the UK
- Utility bills, tenancy agreements, or university registration letters confirming that the applicant lives or studies within the Spanish Consulate’s jurisdiction in London.
Family Members Accompanying the Applicant
Family members can apply under family reunification with the following additional documents:
- Marriage or birth certificates to prove family relationship.
- Proof of financial dependence for adult children or dependent relatives.
- Documents must be translated into Spanish and legalized or apostilled.
- If minors are applying:
- Both parents must sign the visa application.
- Notarized parental authorization required if only one parent is traveling with the minor.
Visa Fee Payment
- Visa and residence authorization fees are mandatory and must be paid in local currency at the time of submission.
- Fees are non-refundable, even in case of visa refusal.
Post-Visa Process
- The Non-Lucrative Visa is valid for 3 months.
- Within one month of entering Spain, the applicant must apply for a TIE (Tarjeta de Identidad de Extranjero)at the local Immigration Office or Police Station.
Additional Information
- Stapling documents is not permitted.
- All documents must be in English or Spanish. Translations into Spanish are only required if specifically requested.
- Visa approval is not guaranteed, and additional documents may be requested by the Consulate.
- All decisions regarding visa issuance, duration, and conditions are at the discretion of the Spanish Consulate General in London.
Photo Specifications
Applicants must submit one recent colour photograph (not older than 6 months) that meets the following requirements:
- Background: Taken against a plain, light-coloured background (white or off-white) to ensure facial features are clearly distinguishable and contrast against the background.
- Clarity & Focus: The photo must be of high quality, clear, and in sharp focus.
- Full Face Visible:
- The applicant must have a neutral expression (non-smiling).
- No sunglasses, hats, caps, or head coverings, unless worn for religious or cultural reasons.
- Printing Requirements:
- Printed on standard photographic paper (camera print).
- Must be glued to the visa application form (not stapled).
- Compliance Check:
- If the submitted photograph does not meet the above requirements, the application will be considered incomplete.
- The applicant may be required to take new photographs at a photo booth in the visa application centre.
