Documents Required
All documents listed below are mandatory. Each applicant must submit their own set of documents.
Important: Most documents required for your visa application must be recent and dated within the last 30 days at the time of submission. Ensure all paperwork meets this requirement to avoid delays or rejection.
General Requirements
Visa Application Form
- Fully completed, signed, and dated.
- The province of residence in Spain must be stated in the application.
National Identification Number (NIE)
- Proof of application or existing NIE (Número de Identificación de Extranjero).
Photograph
- One passport-size colour photograph printed on photo paper with a white background.
- No digital retouching allowed.
Passport
- Valid for at least 1 year from the intended date of travel.
- Must contain two blank pages.
- Photocopy of the bio-data page of the passport.
- Passports issued more than 10 years ago will not be accepted.
- Applicants must leave their passports at the Consulate during processing.
UK Residency
- Provide a UK eVisa printout from UKVI with a valid share code.
Proof of Remote Employment or Self-Employment
For Employees:
- A certificate from the foreign company confirming:
- Length of employment (minimum 3 months before applying).
- Explicit consent to work remotely in Spain.
- Monthly salary details (must meet financial requirements).
For Self-Employed/Freelancers:
- A contract or service agreement with at least one international client.
- Proof of business registration and operations for at least 3 months before the application.
For Business Owners:
- Certificate of company registration from the relevant authority.
- Proof of company activity, including tax returns and financial statements.
Criminal Record Certificate (For Applicants Aged 18+)
- Original and photocopy of a criminal record certificate from all countries where the applicant has resided in the past 2 years.
- Additionally, the applicant must submit a self-declaration confirming the absence of criminal records for the past 5 years.
- UK applicants must provide an ACRO Certificate.
- Documents must be legalized or apostilled (except for EU-issued documents).
- If not in Spanish, an official translation must be provided.
Proof of Residence in the Consular District
- Proof of legal residence in the UK, such as a utility bill, tenancy agreement, or university registration letter.
- This must confirm the applicant lives or studies within the Spanish Consulate’s jurisdiction in London.
Health Insurance Requirement
- Original and a copy of a comprehensive private health insurance policy with an insurance company authorized in Spain.
- Insurance must:
- Provide full and unlimited coverage with no co-payments or excess fees.
- Cover all risks insured under Spain’s public health system.
- Be valid for the entire duration of stay.
- Alternatively, applicants registered with Spanish Social Security must provide an S1 form registration receipt.
Proof of Social Security Registration
If Registered in the UK:
- Form A1 issued by HMRC:
- Employees: CA3822 Certificate confirming UK National Insurance payments while working abroad.
- Self-employed: CA3837 Certificate confirming UK National Insurance payments while self-employed abroad.
- A declaration of commitment to comply with UK social security obligations.
If Registering in Spain:
- A certificate proving registration with the Spanish Social Security System.
- Self-employed applicants must submit a certificate of registration with RETA (Régimen Especial de Trabajadores Autónomos).
Proof of Finance
Applicants must demonstrate financial stability with at least 200% of the Spanish national minimum wage (SMI).
- 2024 SMI: €1,134 per month.
- Required income for primary applicant: €2,268 per month.
- Additional family members:
- First dependent: €850.50 per month (75% of SMI).
- Each additional dependent: €283.50 per month (25% of SMI).
Acceptable proof of funds:
- Employment contracts
- Bank statements (last 3-6 months)
- Payslips
Proof of Professional Qualification
- A university degree OR a professional certification confirming at least 3 years of experience in the applicant’s business activity.
- UK applicants can submit Employment History from HMRC as proof: Get Proof of Employment History.
Additional Documents for Family Members
For family members accompanying the applicant, the following additional documents are required:
- Marriage or birth certificate (to prove relationship).
- Proof of financial dependency (for adult children or elderly relatives).
- Documents must be legalized/apostilled and officially translated into Spanish, if necessary.
Visa Validity & Post-Arrival Requirement
- The initial Digital Nomad Visa is valid for 1 year.
- After arrival in Spain, visa holders must apply for a residence permit.
Important Information
- Stapling documents is not permitted.
- All documents must be in English or Spanish. Translations into Spanish are only required if specifically requested.
- Visa approval is not guaranteed, and additional documents may be requested by the Consulate.
- All decisions regarding visa issuance, duration, and conditions are at the discretion of the Spanish Consulate General in London.
Photo Specifications
Applicants must submit one recent colour photograph (not older than 6 months) that meets the following requirements:
- Background: Taken against a plain, light-coloured background (white or off-white) to ensure facial features are clearly distinguishable and contrast against the background.
- Clarity & Focus: The photo must be of high quality, clear, and in sharp focus.
- Full Face Visible:
- The applicant must have a neutral expression (non-smiling).
- No sunglasses, hats, caps, or head coverings, unless worn for religious or cultural reasons.
- Printing Requirements:
- Printed on standard photographic paper (camera print).
- Must be glued to the visa application form (not stapled).
- Compliance Check:
- If the submitted photograph does not meet the above requirements, the application will be considered incomplete.
- The applicant may be required to take new photographs at a photo booth in the visa application centre.
